When you think the time is right or any raiders get too close to your troops order the general charge to clean up. Then if they are other individual raiders that are separated from the pack try to pick them off.

So after the hail of axes is done it’s time to pick off archers with the lance and shield.

Some will have bows and so they will still be able to shoot, however they will tend to get separated from the other sea raiders as they shoot. You are not doing this so much to do damage to them as to get them to throw all their javelins and axes. Sprint out toward the sea raiders and run around them at medium distance and shoot off your arrows or just hold up your shield. Leave your troops for now in formation on some high nearby high ground. You need to do the same things you practiced against looters. However I find that they can be harvested with less risk than troops that contain cavalry. I know they seem tough, and they will likely mow you and you rag tag band down in a head on fight. Once you build up you skills a little (and I mean your skills as a player at mowing things down with the lance not necessarily your characters experience) and have acquired a courser, good quality lances both sharp and blunt, and armor enough that you can take a javelin or two it’s time to start hunting more profitable game. Attack lone stragglers or the edges of groups, don’t charge into the middle of a group. I usually come in on an enemy in a diminishing radius curve. Charging right at an enemy is also great way to get shot. While knocking the enemy over with your horse’s charge has its uses, for me at least it seems easier to hit an enemy at the maximum angle to the side. This also puts the enemy at the maximum distance from you and your horse lessening the chance they will hit you. I find it is easier to get a hit when my lance is at the maximum angle from the horse. I can only imagine that trying to learn the aiming and the timing at once will make things exponentially more difficult. It’s hard enough to get the hang of the new lance mode after mastering the old one. Start with the easy lance mode where it just comes down when you are at speed. So choose which lance depending how strong your intended victims are.

A blunt lance gives the best cash since you’ll take prisoners, but won’t give the consistent one hit kills a normal lance will give at full gallop. By this time they will be thinned out and out of things to throw at you so go in and pick the rest off with the lance. Ride in circles around the enemies and practice with the bow until you run out of arrows you reduce their numbers by half or more. Attack with lance, shield and bow and arrows. Groups under 10 can be attacked alone or if you have some troops tell them to hold back so you can practice before bring your boys in. At first try to find small weak bands of bandits like looters. A courser is my favorite choice even in late game.Īt the start you really need to pick your battles. Speed keeps enemy mounted troops off you and makes it harder for enemy archers to hit you. I prefer speed over everything else when it comes to a horse. A great lance is ideal and/or a jousting lance since it does blunt damage and allows you to take prisoners for extra cash. Early on my priorities are to acquire two things. I have a starting strategy I’ve used successfully for a few characters. You have 60 days to find their hideout so this should be more than enough time to find a travelling bandit party and track them to their lair. Then it’s just a matter of following them. When they are travelling they are returning directly to their hideout. If they are patrolling they won’t lead you to their hideout either, but if you follow a patrolling group of bandits they will eventually change to travelling. If they’re chasing someone or being chased they won’t lead you to their hideout, ever, so don’t get close enough to make let them notice you. They’ll be either running from enemies (usually you, if you get too close), chasing enemies if they see someone weaker than them, patrolling, or travelling. When you see a party of bandits mouse over them and you will see what they’re doing. When you’ve done that you can either scour the area hoping to stumble over the hideout, which is probably not going to work, or you can follow bandits back to their hideout. As bandit parties on the map are eliminated new parties will be spawned near the hideout so after a week or two the bandit hideout area should have noticably more bandits. To find bandit hideouts the first step is to find where there are most bandits.
